Press-side colour control, built for the real world

The X-Rite eXact series are proven, workhorse spectrophotometers trusted by printers and packaging converters worldwide. Two models cover the full spectrum of pressroom and ink lab needs, from reliable CMYK and spot colour validation on the Standard, to full pre-press through post-press ink and paper analysis on the Advanced.

Why choose the eXact series for pressroom colour measurement?

The eXact is the industry benchmark for handheld print colour measurement. Where many instruments offer density or colour readings in isolation, the eXact combines both, giving press operators a complete picture of what's happening on sheet without switching tools. A protected, automated white tile calibration means the instrument is always press-ready, and the three-source illumination system produces a truly ISO-defined circumferential illumination that reduces variation on textured or uncoated stocks where directional printing effects would otherwise introduce error.

How does the eXact connect with the rest of my colour workflow?

Both models integrate with X-Rite's broader software ecosystem. NetProfiler keeps devices calibrated and consistent across your facility. Pantone Connect delivers cloud-based colour standards with an optional licence. The Advanced also connects to X-Rite's InkFormulation software and Color iQC Print for a fully integrated pre-press through post-press colour management chain. Bluetooth connectivity (standard on the Advanced, available on the Standard) enables wireless data transfer to connected systems.

How do these compare to the newer eXact 2 series?

The eXact Standard and Advanced are first-generation instruments, a proven, field-tested platform that X-Rite continues to manufacture and support. The newer eXact 2 series adds Mantis video targeting, a larger touchscreen, non-contact measurement, and integrated scanning wheels. If your priority is advanced video targeting and a fully modernised interface, the eXact 2 series is worth considering. If you have existing eXact workflows and infrastructure, or prefer a well-proven platform at a more accessible price point, the eXact Standard and Advanced remain excellent choices.
